Class attire

Attire lets teachers see alignment and lets dancers move safely. Here is what to wear, by program and style.

Children’s Program

Children’s Program attire requirements
Class	Girls	Boys	Hair
Toddler / Creative Movement	Any color or style leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes. Black tap shoes for Creative Movement.	Colored shirt with shorts or sweatpants, black ballet shoes and black tap shoes.	Hair must be secured.
Ballet Fundamentals / Primary	Leotard and tights in any color, pink ballet slippers, black tap shoes. Tan jazz shoes for jazz classes; bare feet optional.	Shirt with shorts or sweatpants, black ballet and tap shoes. Tan jazz shoes for jazz; bare feet permitted.	Long hair must be pulled back.
Hip Hop	Athletic, fitted clothing; shorts may be worn over a leotard. Tan jazz shoes required.		Long hair must be pulled back.

Centre Track attire requirements
Class	Attire	Shoes	Hair
Ballet	Any style black leotard with pink tights.	Pink ballet shoes. Pointe shoes by teacher approval only.	Hair in a bun.
Tap	Studio attire.	Black tap shoes.	Hair secured.
Jazz	Studio attire.	Tan jazz shoes.	Hair secured.
Hip Hop	Athletic style clothing, or tight shorts pulled over a leotard.	Tan jazz shoes.	Hair secured.

Performance Track attire requirements

Ballet	Black leotard with pink tights.	Pink canvas ballet shoes.	Hair in a bun.
Modern	Black leotard with pink tights. No loose clothing.	Bare feet.	Hair in a bun.
Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical & Musical Theater	Sports bras, leggings, athletic shorts and athletic tops are permitted. No t-shirts or baggy clothing.	As directed by the instructor.	Hair pulled back.
Acro	Sports bras and leotards, without tights.	Bare feet.	Hair pulled back and out of the dancer’s face.

Fitted attire lets a teacher see line, turnout and placement, which is what they are there to correct. Loose clothing hides what needs fixing.

Hair up and secured for every class, in a bun for ballet and modern. It is a safety requirement as much as a tradition.
